Taipei, Taiwan, 10 July 2002 - VIA Technologies, Inc, a leading innovator and developer of silicon chip technologies and PC platform solutions, today announced the VIA P4PB 400 Mainboard, the world’s first mainboard to harness the unparalleled performance and connectivity features of the VIA Apollo P4X400 chipset.

The VIA P4PB 400’s performance features are exceptional and include AGP 8X, providing 2100MB/sec of ultra fast graphics bandwidth, double the speed of today’s standard platforms. DDR400/333 SDRAM enables the new Intel? Pentium? 4 processor with 533MHz FSB to perform to its full capacity by supplying a massive 3200MB/sec of fast double data rate memory thus eliminating all system data bottlenecks. The P4PB 400’s unsurpassed connectivity features include integrated USB 2.0/1.1, IDE ATA/133, onboard IEEE 1394, 10/100 LAN, and a Smart Card connector.

An onboard VIA VT1616 audio codec provides six channels of studio quality, crisp, digital surround sound and supports both optical and SPDIF outputs. The VIA P4PB 400 is bundled with a S/PDIF connector bracket that fits neatly into any available PC chassis I/O expansion slot. The S/PDIF brackets enables digital to digital signal transfers between devices thus eliminating the signal degradation associated with traditional analog audio.

Network connectivity is provided through the onboard VIA Rhine III VT6105M 10/100Mbps Fast Ethernet LAN controller. The VT6105M is VIA’s most advanced LAN controller featuring Wake-on-LAN, remote bootability and multiple VLAN, resulting in increased system performance, security, and easier network management.

The onboard VIA VT6306 IEEE 1394 host controller and integrated VIA USB 2.0 enables seamless connectivity to all the latest high speed multimedia devices and peripherals such as digital video cameras, MP3 players, and the next generation of scanners and printers.

With the release of the Apollo P4X400-based P4PB 400 mainboard VIA is again showing its industry leadership by pioneering the transition to the next generation of performance features such as AGP 8X and DDR400 SDRAM” commented Richard Brown, Director of Marketing at VIA Technologies, Inc.

The VIA P4PB 400 is available in two SKUs. The P4PB 400-FL is VIA’s Premium level mainboard supporting the complete comprehensive feature set. The P4PB 400-L is VIA’s Pro level mainboard containing all features except IEEE 1394 support.

FliteDeck Firmware Suite

P4PB 400 mainboard users enjoy the added benefit of VPSD’s FliteDeck? bundle. FliteDeck is an extensive system management suite that empowers the user by enabling full system control through an easy to use Windows?-based management suite. FliteDeck enables advanced features such as overclocking, CPU fan speed and temperature monitoring and BIOS updates.
